Pumpkin Patch

Today Isaac's Pre-K class had a field trip to Ness Farms - Home of the Happy Little Pumpkin Patch about 5 miles outside of Estancia, NM. Basically, in the middle of dry flat and windy land. I can't believe anything grows out there but this little Family run farm sustains itself by selling hay year round to other farmers and opening a small store in October to sell pumpkins, squash and beans. They also make money buy giving school kids a chance to have a hay ride and go out into the fields and pick their very own pumpkin. ~ Isaac is standing on top of very large hay bails that were stacked up for the kids to climb on.
This tunnel that the boys are in runs through the stack of hay that they were all climbing on.
After a short ride on a flat bed trailer pulled by a tractor we all scattered in the fields to find the very best pumpkin we could. Here is Isaac being a nice big brother and helping Eric get a pumpkin just his size.
My Mom and Dad went with us to the pumpkin patch and also picked pumpkins. They were very big! Can you see the green one in the back? Every year since Isaac was two I have taken him to a pumpkin patch in October. I always think he will pick a nice big orange pumpkin. Every year since he was two he picks a nice green one! Go figure.
Eric didn't want to give up his pumpkin on the ride home. He worked hard to find this one! He was so tired and fell right asleep as soon as we pulled away from the farm.
These are pictures from Wednesday. My Mom made my Aunt Becky a balloon quilt to remember her vacation to New Mexico and the balloon fiesta. She really liked her quilt a lot!
Here is a picture of Aunt Becky with the boys on her last night here.
~ Now I am off to hang balloons in Isaac's door way. Every year on the boys' birthdays a birthday fairy comes in the night and hangs balloons in their bedroom door way. I have done this since Isaac turned one and they both really love it! Tomorrow he will officially turn 5!
